Aims

This module aims to enable the students to develop knowledge, understanding and application of human anatomy and physiology. It draws on established-knowledge from the scientific disciplines of anatomy and physiology that underpin sound practice in healthcare.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Students should be able to:

Module Specific Skills

  • outline the structure and key functions of the human body;
  • describe normal anatomy at the gross and cellular level;
  • describe normal physiology at the systems level.

Discipline Specific Skills

  • use appropriate sources of information to develop own knowledge;

Personal and Key Skills

  • manage time and, with guidance, prioritise workloads;
  • demonstrate basic problem-solving skills;
  • work cooperatively.

Learning and Teaching Methods

Lectures (28×1hour) and practical work (12 hours). Directed background reading.

Assignments

Directed background reading.

Assessment

Twelve hours of practical work (10%), one two-hour exam (50% week 11), 60-minute test (20%, week 6), 60-minute test (20%, week 9).
