Aims

This module aims to enable the students to develop knowledge, understanding and application of psychological concepts in the context of contemporary healthcare practice. It draws on knowledge from a well-established scientific discipline, psychology, in order to underpin sound practice in Healthcare. The student is introduced to psychological themes related to health, including their relationship to healthcare practice.

Lectures (20×1hour), tutorials, presentations and directed investigative learning.

Directed background reading.

One 1-hour examination (60% week 11); 30-minute test (20%, week 6), 30-minute test (20%, week 9).

  3. Basic concepts in mental health.
  4. Social Psychology
    health psychology including stress and concordance.
  5. Relationship of psychological states to health and altered function.
