Misha is a theoretical physicist with a broad range of research interests spanning from exactly-solvable problems in quantum and statistical mechanics and anyon excitons in the fractional quantum Hall effect regime to THz applications of carbon-based nanostructures and modelling white light-emitting diodes. His most recent work is devoted to zero-energy states in graphene waveguides and quantum dots and to excitons in narrow-gap carbon nanotubes.

For one year starting in October 2005 Misha was on sabbatical leave as a full professor at the International Center for Condensed Matter Physics (ICCMP) in Brasilia, Brazil. He was also one of the organisers of the Research Workshop on Advances in Physics and Applications of Low-Dimensional Systems, which was hosted by ICCMP in July 2007. Earlier he was one of the scientific co-ordinators of the International Seminar and Workshop on Cooperative Phenomena in Optics and Transport in Nanostructures held at Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden.

Since July 2009 Misha has been an Associate Editor of the Journal of Nanophotonics published by SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.
