Staff Workload and Resource Model (SWARM) for Physics

Introduction

The CEMPS Staff Workload and Resource Model (SWARM) is to calculate and report things like the cost of educational provision and to ensure that there is a reasonably equitable distribution of tasks between the such. If such a database exists, then complying with:

requires that the numbers and the formulae it contains are both correct and not misleading.

Summary of the Model

The current model is a linear combination of three workload elements: preparation, delivery, and marking. These are entered on the assumption that the module has been previously delivered, in essentially the same form, by the same lecturer. Flags indicate whether the instructor responsible for delivering an existing module have changed, or if the module is new, in which cases the preparation time is increased by a discipline-specific factor. Marking time is specified per ten students and is multiplied by the number of students registered.

The details of the scheme are considered to contain commercially sensitive information and further details are restricted to physics staff.
