Academic Misconduct Officer

Role Description

The University requires every Department to have an academic misconduct officer.

Specific activities include:

  1. Ensuring that the Department complies with the University's Code of Practice: Managing Academic Misconduct
  2. Provide a source of information and support within the Department on dealing with cases of suspected cheating along with being the primary source of advice on preventative measures.
  3. Attend Department-level plagiarism and misconduct hearings.
  4. Act as an expert and source of advice to the Head of Discipline in matters of suspected cheating, plagiarism, collusion and related suspected offences.
  5. Attend Committees of Academic Enquiry as a committee member when required.
  6. Ensure, normally by delivering a talk to them in T1:00, that all new students are aware of the applicable Department and University policies and rules concenring plagiarism and academic misconduct.
  7. Monitor reports from the on-line Academic Honesty ELE module and ensure that all students are aware of the need to complete this within the University-specified period.
