Mission Statements
The University's mission specified in the Corporate Plan 2006-10 to contribute to the advancement of society, quality of life and the environment by:
- the pursuit and advancement of knowledge through world-class research undertaken responsibly and with integrity;
- offering high quality teaching, and a challenging, intellectually stimulating learning
environment to students of high potential who will be active participants in equipping
themselves for employment and life in the modern world; and

building partnerships with businesses and wider communities to engage in the development,
application and transfer of knowledge, to generate investment, and to foster an
entrepreneurial culture.
The mission of the School of Physics is:
- to support the University's research and scholarship by undertaking high-level research,
in physics and in radiography, and to disseminate knowledge by international publication of the results;
- to support the University's learning and teaching by provision of high-quality
degree programmes and modules;
- to act as a resource for the South West of England by provision of expert consultancy
services and training courses as appropriate.
