QUEST:The Quest for Ultimate Electromagnetics using Spatial Transformations
This is a £4.6M EPRSC Programme Grant which assembles a team of researchers with backgrounds in Physics (St Andrews and Exeter), and Electrical and Materials Engineering (Queen Mary College London and Oxford). Our researchers in the Electromagnetic Materials Group at Exeter are Dr Alastair Hibbins, Professor Bill Barnes and Professor Roy Sambles. The idea of spatial transformations, which are at the heart of the exciting concepts of invisibility and cloaking, is to provide new ways to manipulate electromagnetic radiation using novel materials, and goes far beyond what can be accomplished traditionally (e.g. with lenses, mirrors and waveguides). The potential applications of QUEST however have much wider implications than invisibility alone, spanning communications, energy transfer, sensors and security. QUEST runs for five years from July 2011.
Project duration, Summer 2011 - Summer 2016.
