Assessment of Essays and Reports (Medical Imaging)
Each student will have their essay/report read by two assessors.
In accordance with the School's Marking Strategy,
the principal assessor must complete an individual pro-forma (see below) as applicable, on
which feedback comments will be made and marks recorded. This will be passed to the second
assessor for second marking.
A copy of the feedback pro-forma will be returned to the student. All marks are
provisional because, in exceptional circumstances, they may be moderated by the Board of Examiners.
The marks for this assessment contribute to the overall module mark in
proportion to the weighting indicated in the module description.
General advice about writing essays and reports is in the section
Effective Studying of the School Handbook.
Essays and reports should:
-
be identified only by student number (essays are marked anonymously);
-
have a footer on each page containing the page number and student number;
- conform to the recommended number of words. These are not rigid limits but
it is likely that an essay which is too short will not do justice to the
subject, and one which is much too long will have irrelevant content;
- use either the:
- Numeric Style (preferred for scientific subjects), or
- Harvard-style (preferred for arts/humanties subjects)
referencing system consistently and accurately. Physics students should use the numeric scheme
in assessed work. Radiography students should seek advice from their module instructor.
- use double line spacing;
- be written in the passive voice ('third person style');
- have the pages secured by a single staple through the upper left corner and be contained in a single protective cover.
