Clinical Assessment Marking Criteria

These criteria are to be used when completing the the clinical assessment forms. Students are expected to provide a verbal commentary throughout the assessment to demonstrate their understanding of, and compliance with, safe competent practice.

Definition of terms used on the clinical assessment forms

'No'

The student did not attempt the task, or could not perform the task safely, even with direct assistance from the assessor OR the student had planned to carry out an incorrect or unsafe action.

'Prompt'

The clinical assessor had to give the student an opportunity to consider whether all required actions had been completed. Prompting is defined as asking 'Is there anything else you would like to do?'. If a specific request has to be given to a student to ensure they undertake a task then the student is regarded as having not attempted that task.

'Yes'

The student attempted the task independently, proficiently and safely.
