The Role of Clinical Assessors
Introduction
Clinical Assessors are radiographers based at each clinical placement
site whose role is to undertake clinical assessments of students as
outlined in the Practice Placement documentation. Clinical Assessors are
experienced radiographers who undergo training by the University of
Exeter to ensure that all sites assess students correctly and interpret
the marking criteria appropriately.
Specific Role
Clinincal Assessors will:
- demonstrate commitment to the education of students by undertaking
some form of education-related study (e.g. mentorship module, learning
and teaching module) or by having substantial experience of assessing
clinical practice;
- liaise with the Link Radiographers on matters of student progress
and welfare;
- undertake clinical assessments as outlined in the practice placement
documentation;
- participate in initial and subsequent annual update training from academic
staff at the University of Exeter to ensure familiarity with the marking
criteria and requirements of each type of clinical assessment, and to
maintain consistency across sites;

ensure students develop and maintain high standards of radiography
by applying the current published clinical assessment marking criteria fairly, rigorously
and consistently;
- discuss written feedback with the student following a clinical assessment, outlining
strengths and/or areas for improvement.
