Tutorial System Co-ordinator

Job Description

  1. To assign students, in small groups of four on average, to academic tutors. Normal criteria for assigning tutees to groups, in priority order are as follows:
    1. Group students by Stage.
    2. Group combined honours students separately, preferably assign to a theoretician.
    3. Group Stage 3 students taking BSc vs MPhys programmes separately.
    4. Group students on astrophysics programmes separately at stages 2 and above and assign to astrophysics specialist.
    5. Group students taking the same mathematics module.
    6. Group students of similar ability level.
    7. Students (including those repeating a Stage) should not have the same tutor twice.
  2. Avoid groups where there is only one male or female student member.
  3. Print memos to tutors
  4. Deal with reports and problems.
  5. Arrange distribution and collection of report forms for each student which must be passed to the appropriate Student Co-ordinator for review.
  6. Monitor effectiveness of tutorial system reporting systematic problems to the Chair of Teaching Committee.
