MPhys Projects Co-ordinator

Job Description

Ensure the MPhys projects follow the specification published in the School Handbook. In particular:
  1. Ensure that the research areas devise and structure the appropriate number of suitable one- and two-year MPhys projects each year.
  2. Liaise with the Head of School to ensure that the necessary funding will be available to make these projects possible. Monitor expenditure throughout the year and ensure that the relevant grants do not run into deficit.
  3. Ensure that all MPhys students are matched, in appropriately sized groups, and by the Trinity term of their Stage 2 year, with suitable projects for the final one or two Stages of their course.
  4. Chair all meetings associated with the academic assessments of MPhys project work, ensure that the staff and students know the assessment criteria, and arrange with staff and students the timetables for the various assessment stages.
  5. Monitor the supervision and assessment of the students throughout their projects and ensure that the agreed stages of the structure of the projects are implemented.

Late April/early MayProvide MPhys students with summaries of the proposed projects and establish their choices of projects and partners.
JuneArrange the notebook assessment for Stage 3 students and the report assessments for the 3rd year NA study students.
OctoberArrange the poster and report assessments for Stage 4 students. Notify students of poster locations.
NovemberArrange the presentation assessments for Stage 3 students and fourth-year Euro study and NA study students and lab book assessments for the fourth-year NA and Euro study students.
DecemberArrange report vivas for Stage 3 students.
JanuaryArrange notebook assessment for Stage 4 students and poster assessments for Euro and NA study students.
MarchArrange notebook assessment for fourth-year NA study students.
MayArrange dissertation vivas for all Stage 4 students.
Throughout the yearAssist the research project supervisors to follow consistent assessment procedures and liaise with the research project supervisors to ensure that various stages of the agreed project structure are being implemented throughout the academic year.
